Surge Protect All Breaker Panels

Surge protection of breaker panels is a must, due to the sensitivity and importance of our electronics today. Transient Protection design provides surge protection and power filtering at each breaker panel location (service entrance and sub panel).

TPD surge protection for breaker panels will extend the life of all electronics, while improving their reliability. Utility power was designed for motors and incandescent bulbs and does not guarantee clean power for electronics. Contaminated power lines and internally generated transients degrade power supplies, circuit boards, LED drivers and other electronics components causing lockups, downtime and inconvenience. Needing less than 36mm (1 7/16 inch) of mounting depth both the Round Ci160TR and Square Ci160TS are the thinnest ever for a two-way speaker design. Complimenting them is the Ci200TRb, a remarkable 200mm (8inch) woofer needing only 59mm (2 11/32 inch) of mounting depth.

The KEF Ci T Series 1inch aluminum dome tweeter features KEF’s unique “tangerine waveguide” for natural high frequency response with wide and even dispersion. The rigid, flat, 4.5inch diaphragm of the MF driver (derived from KEF’s Ultra-Thin T Series on-wall speakers) provides clean upper bass and mid-range with excellent bass extension – all in an assembly less than 1½-inch thick. Situations often arise in multi room music distribution system in which there is only enough space to locate a single speaker. This usually happens in smaller rooms such as bathrooms where the ceiling space is limited either because of the inherently small size of the room, or much of the available space is taken up for lights and air vents. Using a conventional in ceiling speaker in this circumstance would yield compromised playback of only the left or right channel of the stereo signal, which is less than mono. Half of the music. Not good. The clever engineers at KEF have created an intelligent solution to overcome this all too common problem. The new CiTR-SM

• The CiTR-SM takes the separate left and right channels from the output of a stereo amplifier and combines them so they will playback into virtually any single speaker, with no compromise to the electronics, speaker or musical signal.

• With the CiTR-SM an installer is not limited to using an in-ceiling speaker for this application; they can choose ANY form factor - be it in-ceiling, in-wall, outdoor, on-wall, bookshelf or floor standing. Limitless choice.

• Should you choose to run the left and right speaker wires to the speakers, the CiTR-SM could be located behind the speaker. If the CiTR-SM is located at the electronics, time and money are saved because only a single speaker wire needs be connected from the CiTR-SM to the speaker.

Denon Unveils the first 8K Receivers for the next Home Cinema Revolution!

Denon’s newest X-Series AVRs are their best ever! These are Denon’s first receivers ever to feature HDMI 2.1 for 8k performance. Among the many other features of this new series is its inclusion of Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization, VPR (variable fresh rate) support, Bluetooth transmission to headphones, and many more.

But of course, us projector nerds are most excited about the introduction of 8K and HDMI 2.1. While 8K content is extremely limited at this time, these AVRs are a good way to future proof yourself from having to upgrade in 2 years.

Denon’s X-Series AVRs support eARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel). This allows for uncompressed and object-based audio from your projector. The receiver is able to detect the best surround format to use. Of course, us projector nerds are most excited about the introduction of 8K and HDMI 2.1. While 8K content is extremely limited at this time, these AVRs are a good way to futureproof yourself from having to upgrade in 2 years. This upgraded technology will not only serve your UHD projector, but also your latest and greatest gaming console, streaming device and TV.

The four new 8K models Denon has unveiled are: The AVR-X3700H, the AVR-X4700H, and finally the AVR-X6700H.

S-Mount Phone or Tablet Mount

WHAT IS THE S-MOUNT?

Three different versions are available: The S-Mount (Unpowered), the S-Mount-HV (High volt 110/220), and S-Mount-POE (Power over ethernet) 

S-Mount is a super slim magnet mount for your phone or tablet, which can easily be installed on any flat surface. Once installed you can quickly attach and remove your device, then slip it into your favorite carrying case.The mount is only 1/4" thick and does not require a special case, so the tablet looks like it is attached to the wall.Designed to look like a wall plate, it blends with the homes decor

The S-Mount-HV (High-Volt) is designed to connect to 120v/240v, then convert the power to safely charge your device. An electrician would run a wire from an existing power source to the mount location, and install an electrical box.  They would then connect the high volt electrical to the converter located on the rear of the S-mount...this is what supplies the power to your tablet for charging.

The S-Mount-POE (Power Over Ethernet) gets its power from a remote location, such as the A/V racks or closet by way of a Cat5/6 cable.  Because only low volt power is used to power the device through the cable, it can be installed without a licence or permit.

A POE injector, such as the S-Mount-POE-I, supplies power to the cable to feed the S-Mount.  The injector is plugged into a 120/240 outlet.

FLEXO F6’s unique split, semi-rigid braided construction makes it the ideal solution for situations where ease of installation is of primary importance. The lateral split allows the tube to open up to accommodate a wide variety of bundling requirements, and the semi-rigid braid configuration simply closes around the entire installation without the need for any additional fasteners (Velcro, tape, etc.). The 10 mil PET braid is lightweight, quiet and flexible. The 25% edge overlap (at nominal diameter) allows coverage around inline plugs, connectors and splices.

Wavebar® is a high-performance, flexible mass-loaded vinyl noise barrier, offering superior acoustic transmission loss. Designed to meet market requirements it has been effectively used to reduce noise in building, commercial, industrial and automotive markets, globally.

The engineering team at Pyrotek® developed Wavebar® to be dense, thin, highly-flexible, tear-resistant and strong. These properties give the product high transmission loss throughout the various weight ranges.

Stiff lightweight panel constructions, such as plasterboard, drywall, plywood and hollow core walls, typically have coincidence dip resonance which allows noise to transmit through a construction. The coincidence dip is dependent on the material’s stiffness and thickness and occurs at the point where the sound transmitted through the structure matches the natural frequency of the panel.

JVC Launches Cost Effective 4K/UHD DLP Projector

JVC has announced a new 4K HDR DLP projector that extends the brand's reputation for stunning image quality to a wider audience of home theater enthusiasts.

The new JVC LX-UH1 is a 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) projector that uses the newly developed TRP DMD technology to deliver 4K images, and offers HDR support, 2,000 lumens, and vertical and horizontal lens shift.

The new 0.47-inch TRP digital micromirror device (DMD) is a 4K UHD DLP chipset that in combination with the LX-UH1's high quality optical system delivers crisp 4K (3840 x 2160) video. With four times the resolution of 1080p, 2000 lumens, and an RGBRGB color wheel, the new projector delivers bright, high-contrast images for a thrilling home theater experience, with a dynamic contrast ratio of 100,000:1.

The LX-UH1 supports 100% of Rec. 709 color space (BT.2020 compatible) and displays HDR content with outstanding brightness, contrast and color. The projector supports both HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma, an HDR Gamma mode for broadcasts and streaming services. When viewing HDR content users have the option to engage the two-position automatic aperture to get the best possible image quality.

The projector includes two HDMI inputs, including one that features the full speed/full spec HDMI/HDCP2.2 standard and capable of handling data transfer rates up to 18Gbps. There is also an RS-232C interface and a 12-volt screen trigger output.

The All-New SR7013 Headlines Marantz’s Pre-CEDIA Launch Announcement (August 8, 2018) Marantz is officially prepped and ready for CEDIA 2018 with the recent announcement of three new SR-Series receiver models. Last week, the company officially revealed details about the pending US launch of its SR7013, and SR5013 ) AVRs, each of which is scheduled to ship in September. The company hasn’t released any information about an SR8012 refresh, however it held that particular native 11-channel performer close to its chest last fall, waiting until a CEDIA media event for an exciting reveal.

Much like the SR7012 (reviewed here), the SR7013 carries 9 channels of amplification (125 watts per channel, 8 Ohm, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 2 channels driven) for native Atmos systems as large as 5.2.4 or 7.2.2, with onboard processing allowing two channels of external amplification for arrangements up to 7.2.4. And, once again, Auro 3D ships unlocked, giving owners access to the immersive sound trifecta of Atmos, Auro-3D, and DTS:X. This is particularly exciting because it grants new model owners the ability to experience both Auro-2D and 3D audio processing out of the box, the former of which is a formidable competitor to stereo up-mixing solutions offered by Dolby and DTS.

Internally, Marantz says the SR7013 features high-current discrete power amps on all channels, with the company’s Hyper Dynamic Amplification Module (HDAM) circuitry lending to an extremely clean and pure sound quality. For enthusiasts looking for Hi-Res functionality, the SR7013 can decode up to 24-bit/192 kHz ALAC, FLAC, and WAV lossless files along with DSD 2.8/5.6 MHz, further lending to audio purity.

On the HDMI front, all eight of the SR7013’s HDMI inputs support 4K video functionality, with the notable inclusion of Dolby Vision and HLG high dynamic range passthrough. And, coming later this year, a firmware release will unlock eARC and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) on two inputs. eARC (which allows for transmission of object-based audio from a TV to an AVR over HDMI) and ALLM (which switches the AVR to low latency mode when connected to Xbox One and supported TVs) are both HDMI 2.1 specification features, but it’s unclear if any of Marantz’s 2018 AVR models carry true HDMI 2.1 chip sets. We’ve reached out to the manufacturer and will relay any information as it becomes available.

The SR7013 ships with the full Audyssey Platinum package, which features Audyssey’s top-flight MultEQ XT32 room correction suite and both Dynamic Volume and Dynamic EQ. Owners can buy an optional Audyssey MultEQ editor app ($20, iOS/Android) to unlock a customizable room correction experience.

All three new AVRs can tap wireless music services using Bluetooth, the free HEOS app, and Apple’s brand-new AirPlay 2 technology. Airplay 2 is a revised version of Apple’s popular AirPlay tech, allowing users to stream audio to multiple devices and multiple rooms in a home. Additionally, popular services such as Spotify, Pandora, Sirius XM, TuneIn, TIDAL, Amazon Music, and Deezer have onboard support with control via Amazon Alexa and HEOS.

Marantz & Denon announce Airplay 2 Update

Marantz and Denon have announced current receiver and sound bar models that will be firmware upgradable to Apple’s forthcoming AirPlay 2 whole home streaming technology.

AirPlay 2 is Apple’s response to Amazon Alexa and Google, who have made tremendous inroads with music streaming platforms like Sonos, Heos, and MusicCast.  With AirPlay 2, you’ll be able to control all AirPlay 2-enabled speakers from a single app and use Siri voice commands to play songs in particular rooms.

We have recently updated our Demo Theater in Vancouver to include the new KEF THX Certified Extreme Speakers in a Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 configuration.

In real life, sound comes from all around. But conventional surround systems only allocate it horizontally – left, right, ahead and behind. What makes Dolby Atmos so staggeringly realistic is that the movement of every sound in the scene is reproduced in all three dimensions, including vertically. This creates a true 3D acoustic image of precisely located individual sounds that move in relation to you as if you were actually there. The effect is uncanny. Exhilarating. Sometimes scary, sometimes hilarious; always engrossing.

What is a Plenum Space?
A plenum is defined as any space used as part of an air-handling system. This includes heating/air-conditioning ducts and air returns, which frequently include the space between suspended ceilings and the floor above in modern office buildings. The National Electric Code (NEC) requires that "exposed cables (those not in conduit) in plenums be listed as having adequate fire-resistant and low-smoke producing characteristics ..."

The Details
For maximum flexibility, the line level outputs are configurable. In their out-of-box state, they are full bandwidth and variable, allowing a zone to be used in conjunction with an external power amplifier if needed. In this application, the 12-volt trigger output typically can be used to provide a turn-on signal to the connected power amplifier. Alternatively, these outputs can set to fixed if being used in conjunction with an amplifier with its own volume control. Beyond that, the line-level outputs can be set to insert a high-pass filter with selectable crossover frequencies. In any setting, the line-level outputs are set to stereo in their out-of-box state. However, for most distributed audio applications, they can be switched to mono, allowing for both the left and right channels to play out of either speaker.

The left line level output can be configured as a subwoofer output with selectable low-pass filter frequencies. This would allow the use of the HEOS App to remotely choose the crossover frequency for the subwoofer rather than setting it on the subwoofer itself. In this application, the LFE input of the subwoofer should be used rather than its line-level inputs, thereby bypassing the subwoofer’s internal crossover.

The speaker-level outputs match the settings of the line-level outputs as either full-range or high-pass. As is the case with the line-level outputs, high-pass crossover frequencies can be set using the latest version of the HEOS App.

The HEOS Drive will be controllable by all the same 3rd-party control solutions as the rest of the HEOS family of products. Please check with your preferred vendors for driver availability.

The HEOS Amp and HEOS Link have already developed a reputation as offering best-in-class sound quality, build quality, flexibility and output in the case of the Amp. From their Burr-Brown DACs and ELNA capacitors to their dual-layer chassis, the HEOS Amp and Link have set themselves apart from all other wireless multi-room audio amplifiers and preamplifiers. However, when an installation calls for more than two channels of amplification, multiple HEOS Amps must be used, and they are too wide to fit side-by-side on a rack mount shelf.

Enter the NEW HEOS Drive. Offering a combination of performance and configurability that is unprecedented and unequaled, the HEOS Drive will quickly become a "go to" product for complex, multi-room distributed audio installations using passive loudspeakers.

The Basics
The HEOS Drive is a 2U (with feet removed), rack-mountable, 8-channel, 4-zone HEOS amplifier and preamplifier. Each channel is rated at 70 watts into 8 ohms, 20Hz-20kHz at less than .1% THD. Two or four channels of the Drive can be bridged, allowing it to be reconfigured as a 6- or 4-channel amplifier. In bridged mode, the Drive is rated to deliver in excess of 100 watts per channel. Each zone can be treated as if it were an independent HEOS Amp or Link, allowing for streaming of all physical and cloud-based content supported by the HEOS App. The Drive offers the same IP control of Denon and Marantz AVRs as the Link.

In addition to the high quality, 5-way binding posts, each zone of the Drive includes a pair of analog inputs and outputs, a USB port, and a 12-volt trigger output. There are also two optical and two coaxial digital inputs. All inputs are matrixed, so that any source connected to any zone of the HEOS Drive can be made available as a source for any other zone. All inputs can be named to make source navigation easier for both the integrator and end user. There is a pair of Ethernet ports, allowing for as many as eight HEOS Drives to be daisy-chained for a total of 32 zones. The Drive is supplied with removable feet and rack mount ears. In recognition of its intended application, the HEOS Drive is the only HEOS product without built-in Wi-Fi.

The HEOS Drive uses the same Class-D amplifier topology as the HEOS Amp, a product that has been widely regarded as offering the best sound quality in the category. The HEOS Drive uses the same high performance digital-to-analog converter as the HEOS Amp and Link: The Burr-Brown PCM5102A 32-bit, 384kHz DAC. Finally, the HEOS Drive includes a Dolby Digital/Digital+ decoder to allow a display or set-top-box to be connected directly using its digital output regardless of the output setting of the device. Multi-channel audio will be down-mixed into stereo.

The Ziptape Rite & Wrap IIR dispensers are a pocket-sized disposable dispenser containing a roll of pre-cut self-laminating wire markers. Each marker has a white area available for legend inscription using a pen or pencil. After marking, simply pull back on the marker liner and the marker is dispensed. On application, the transparent portion of the clear vinyl marker wraps around itself to protect the white write-on area. The adhesive is an aggressive acrylic that is resistant to oil and water, with a service temperature range of –40oF to +250oF.
